I live with my family in Scotland but travel with my work all over the place.

I was always interested in the outdoors and I still do! Mind you a week in rain, snow and ice outdoors is pretty challenging!

My Work:

I am a forensic soil scientist working with police to find out where a crime has been committed or to see if si on a suspects shoes could have come from a crime scene. Never two days are the same!
My Typical Day:

I studied geography at university, then soil science and then forensic science, building up my expertise to apply across the criminal justice system.

Early start, either into the lab to examine and analyse samples or out at a scene taking samples or in court giving evidence, or teaching students .. to late at night writing and preparing talks.
What I'd do with the prize money:

I would use it to set up a short film about my work ( maybe co produced by a crime writer) to be produced and show case it at a local science centre accompanied by a talk, (with a crime writer?) making it live-streamed across UK science centres on World Soil Day.
