Our salary equates to those of a university teaching or research post. The work is hard but hugely rewarding.

I now have my own business, so I decide on my salary… but that depends on how much work I am given.

A police Fingerprint Expert (the job I used to do) earns from about £21,000 as a trainee up to about £35,000

And then you can do what I did was to take on project work or supervisory roles to earn more.

Other specialists can earn a lot more.. but I love my job and I think its rewarding in lots of other ways

It’s enough to support a family but not luxury living. But we don’t do our jobs for financial rewards, it’s to help bring justice and to hopefully be the silent witness for the victims of crime.

I work for a university as a lecturer and so my salary is good. My job is very enjoyable, yes. It is so varied, teaching students about forensic psychology, being involved in eyewitness research, helping the police use forensic tools and working with eyewitnesses of crime.
