Honeycomb, wood, and cork are all natural cellular structures, but as a researcher in this subject, I’m attempting to design and build more efficient structures that are similar to them by using 3D printing method. So my study is interdisciplinary between Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering.
-
My Typical Day:
When I wake up in the morning, I usually have coffee for breakfast while I check my messages and emails. If I need to do experiments, I go to the lab. Otherwise, I read articles or look at the results of experiments on my computer at home. I try to work from 9 to 5, but I don’t have any fixed working hours.

What question are you currently trying to answer?:
I’m trying to figure out if we can make new types of efficient materials that can stiffen or soften when they get a certain signal from the outside world.
-
How do you form a new question?:
I usually look at the world around me and try to figure out why things happen or happen the way they do. If I can’t figure it out, I ask myself how that happens and how I can understand it.
-
When you were at school, what is a question that you asked?:
I was really interested in aeroplanes when I was in primary school, and I wanted to know how they flew since I couldn’t see anything holding them up.
-
How will you know when you have answered your question?:
When I have enough information to fully describe the phenomenon and what’s going on from 0 to 100.
-
