I am a Project Engineer. I design and build systems used for the manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals. Biopharmaceuticals are medicines, vaccines or therapies used to treat people or animals that are unwell. Often these products are very expensive and must be treated well so they do not become damaged or contaminated. My job is important in making sure that the biopharmaceuticals are manufactured in the right conditions and are filtered well, so they are safe and effective to use.

My Typical Day:
As an Engineer, every day is different and there are different tasks to do. I have to do some problem-solving, or writing, or building the systems in the workshop.

I wake up at 7:00am and get ready for work. I like to have a good breakfast, sometimes pancakes or egg and toast.
I get to work at 8:45am, and talk to my team about the activities of the day or any problems that we need to solve.
As an Engineer, every day is different and there are different tasks to do.ย I may have some meetings with customers or have to write some emails. Sometimes I may do experiments in the lab to test how something works. Sometimes I am in the workshop building a system and looking at electrical drawings.
I normally finish work at 5:15pm.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I am currently part of a STEM engagement group at the company I work for. We attend small local conferences and workshops to encourage primary and secondary school-aged children into STEM by showcasing what we do and using our team as role models for different roles in the industry.
I would use the prize money for practical equipment and resources so we could invite students to our site and host an activity day (or days) – offering small projects they could work on and providing the experience a real workplace. We would also like toย design some kits to attend bigger/ national events.
