  Hi Ella! What a super question. When biologists test my chemical compounds on mouse cells, they measure the amount of a ‘pro-inflammatory’ substance called interleukin 1-beta (IL-1β). If my molecules reduce the amount of IL-1β compared to normal, then it suggests that my molecules could reduce the amount of inflammation.
  
  In humans, there are a number of blood tests possible to detect the ‘markers’ of increased inflammation. There is a super explanation of a few of these tests on this website:
