I don’t do experiments myself, but once a colleague showed me how to build a battery and it was pretty cool!

The old ones are the good ones! The thermite reaction is one of my favourites. When I was in secondary school, my chemistry teacher did this in the lab – health and safety wasn’t the same as it is today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWMATrOatRw

my all time favourite will always be the elephants toothpaste experiment.

but my favourite experiment i ever did at work was X-raying bees. one from an industrial area and one from the countryside. and you could clearly see nickel contamination on the industrial bees legs and under belly fur. it was also very interesting to see that an insects blood is not based on iron as it does not carry haemoglobin therefore it is not red. spiders have a copper based blood system like horseshoe crabs so there blood is often very dark/blue tinged and under X-ray you can see the Cu content in the legs quite clearly.

Something I have really enjoyed is making compounds and materials for the first time, when nobody else has made them before. That’s a great feeling.
