At university I studied Biochemical and Environmental Engineering at UCL where I got my Masters. I developed a process to make biofuel from coffee and presented my work in Parliament. I then worked as a Scientist and developed small equipment that was used to develop the COVID vaccine. From there I worked in Research and Development at a pharmaceutical company that makes medicines from human blood plasma! I then decided I wanted to work at a larger scale with bigger processes which is why I decided to become a Process Engineer.
I now work as a Process Engineer at Johnson Matthey developing sustainable precious metals recycling processes, supporting clean-energy Fuel Cell and Green Hydrogen technologies to reduce their environmental footprint and close the loop in the circular economy.
I have tutored GCSE and A-Level Science and Maths in schools where I loved going through new and difficult concepts with people of all different abilities and backgrounds. I have a strong passion for increasing girls interest in STEM, I have been lucky to have some fantastic female mentors over the years and would love to pass it on!

My Typical Day:
I wake up and take my dog for his morning walk and then drive to work. I start my day by planning and drawing equipment diagrams and flowsheets, I attend meetings on project work and health and safety, then I go to the Pilot Plant which is where we build and test our equipment and I put things together like Lego! I run some experiments to see how my process is performing and then analyse my data and discuss it with the team!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would organise a fun slime activity to increase interest in science subjects 🙂
