No it does not! Sneezing is in fact the body functioning. All the other processes like your heart beating doesn’t stop. It’s hard to do something when you sneeze, but that’s just because your body is occupied!
When you sneeze, that’s your body trying to eject something from your nose… something that your body REALLY doesn’t want there, like a virus, or a bit of dust. It’s a very important function.
It’s difficult to do other stuff when you’re sneezing, because a sneeze is such an important task that your body concentrates just on that… it takes a lot of energy to sneeze too.
Also, the pressure builds up inside your body during a sneeze, which can make other things happen. If you really, really, really needed a wee, and then you sneezed, a bit of wee might come out even though you didn’t want it too… because of the extra pressure. So it can affect the other functions of your body in that moment. It’s also a reflex to close your eyes when you sneeze, so usually you won’t be able to see anything while you’re sneezing.
Our body doesn’t stop functioning but it does make it a lot harder for us to do other things!! When we sneeze we either have got a cold, the flu, or something we want out of our nose!! That means we need to try and put a lot of force behind it to get it out! By doing this our body seems to all take part and our muscle tense. When you sneeze, it is also impossible (or seems like it) to keep your eyes open! When you learn to drive (ask a parent!) if you sneeze whilst driving, you temporarily close your eyes and it can be a little scary! It means you keep driving for a short time with your eyes closed! There is nothing we can do to stop it though! So don’t worry, our bodies are still functioning perfectly fine, but just for a short while they don’t seem to be able to to stop that sneeze!!
No it doesn’t. ? On the contrary it is fully functional and the purpose is generally cleaning our respiratory system from dust, microbes, allergens etc…
fun fact: The speed of a sneeze is 100-200 miles an hour-Wow!! 🙂
