“life is for learning” – Joni Mitchell (Woodstock)

“Find what feels good” – Adriene Mishler

“Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Indomitable Spirit” – the 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do.

“Let go of the things that don’t serve you” – common phrase in Yoga

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” – source unproven

“You can’t change the way other people behave, only the way you respond to their behaviour” – I learnt this in a course called “Managing difficult situations”

“What kills me only makes me stronger” – Peter Griffin

“We’re here to work, not to kiss each other” – Salman Tahir, a friend and colleague of mine. I’ve changed the wording slightly. It means we can argue at work, it’s part of being a scientist, and we shouldn’t get upset about it.

“If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.” My mum always told me that. She always tells me ‘The world is your oyster.’ I will always think of that and remember that one.
