The wings are a special shape (an aerofoil) that means when the air travels around them it has a higher pressure underneath than on top. This causes and over-all upward force on the wing which lift the plane up.

Magic! No, I am only joking! The aeroplane is designed so that the air travels a specific way around the aeroplane and wings. There is a lot higher pressure pushing underneath the aeroplane compared to pushing down the aeroplane but there is still enough pressure on top to keep it flying. My boyfriend makes aeroplanes!

The wing of a plane is designed such that when it moves through the air there is an upward force on the wing which keeps it up in the air.
