I love this question! I do not know there is a true answer. But it seems like happy people live longer? I believe genetics has a lot to do with it, but avoiding things that are proven to be harmful is definitely key (i.e. smoking, excessive sun, etc).
Good question! I think a lot of people are working on this. I’m super interested in health and wellbeing so I read a lot about these things. It mainly comes down to nature vs nurture (i.e. is it mostly genetic, or do environmental factors also influence us?) Usually it is a mixture of both. We can’t do much to alter our genetics, but we can alter our environment. We can lead a healthy lifestyle which can include: being active, not smoking, not drinking alcohol, following a plant-based diet, spending time in nature every day, being part of a community, finding a passion in life to pursue, reducing stress, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water… etc (there are probably many other things). Even if you ‘follow all the rules’ of being ‘healthy’, chance might alter your course in life too!
this is a good question but i don’t think there is a 1 answer that can explain this. obviously eating healthy and exercise will keep you fit and healthy which will help you live longer. people can be as healthy as they can all their life and still die before 100.
however thousands of years ago people didn’t live past 40 so with modern advances in healthcare and knowledge about the human body maybe in a few years or so the average age will be 100 with more people living longer
Harvard Health Publishing (https://www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/tips-for-a-longer-life) say 10 steps for living a longer life are:
-Don’t smoke.
-Enjoy physical and mental activities every day.
-Eat a healthy diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and substitute healthier monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats for unhealthy saturated fats and trans fats.
-Take a daily multivitamin, and be sure to get enough calcium and vitamin D.
-Maintain a healthy weight and body shape.
-Challenge your mind. Keep learning and trying new activities.
-Build a strong social network.
-Follow preventive care and screening guidelines.
-Floss, brush, and see a dentist regularly.
-Ask your doctor if medication can help you control the potential long-term side effects of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, osteoporosis, or high cholesterol.
