This is definitely a scary thought. I think that throughout history there has always been times that it seemed like the end (i.e. oblivion) but life always finds a way. Though I do not know a for sure answer (as no one really does), I believe that survival is an inheritant trait! With that being said, I also think we need to do everything we can to assure a promising future. This includes renewable resources and remediation efforts to what is already contaminated. 🙂 Thanks for a very interesting and upfront question!

I think many people are currently in a state of oblivion, as the English dictionary describes oblivion as ‘the state of being unaware or unconscious of what is happening around one’. Many people are unaware of the current state of nature and the planet, regardless of information being readily available. So the question is… who is responsible for making sure people are aware? The media? Politicians? Teachers? Scientists? Or individuals themselves?
But, by your question, if you mean oblivion by the end of life… then I do believe that our species will become extinct one day. We’re quickly running out of resources, and destroying the source of important resources. So logically, we won’t be around much longer. We also can’t control evolution at the larger scale (other than creating ‘designer dog breeds’ etc) and so the future is very uncertain. It leads to many other questions about the origin of life, whether life has always existed and if it will persist?

a very good question, i personally believe that oblivion of some form will happen eventually one day however i don’t think it will happen for millions of years. i think that humans could become extinct due to the damage we are creating however i think that other forms of like will take over such as plants, surviving animals, bacteria etc but eventually earth will no longer cease to exist either from impacts, to black holes, collisions. its a scary thought however this is just my opinion

In the last half-billion years, life on Earth has been nearly wiped out five times, the Big Five mass extinctions, because of things like climate change, ice age, volcanoes and meteorites. After each of these events it has taken several million years to get back to a diverse numbers of animals (biodiversity).
Some research has estimated that as many as 3/4 of animal species could be extinct within several human lifetimes because of the impact we have on the environment, so some people say we are already in the middle of a 6th mass extinction event.
My personal opinion is that humans will eventually produce an environment that humans are unable to survive in and so will die out. But I also think other animals will survive this and the Earth will still have life after we’re gone.
