The sky is blue because Earth has an atmosphere, a layer of gases surrounding it! The light from the sun bounces around in the atmosphere and the light gets scattered. The white light that comes from the sun is made up of all of the colours, but the blue parts get scattered more, so the sky looks blue!

If you visited the moon in the day time the sky would look black. This is because the moon doesn’t have an atmosphere to scatter the sun light!
