The last non-bird dinosaurs to go extinct died out around 66 million years ago when an asteroid hit the Earth. Dinosaurs had already been around for 180 million years at that point though, and throughout that time species of dinosaur were constantly going extinct while new ones evolved. Some small, feathered dinosaurs survived the asteroid impact though, and are still around today – birds!
