I really looked up to a particular chemistry teacher I had, who had a PhD so she was called ‘Dr’. She seemed to know so much and really had a passion for what she was teaching and this really inspired me. My parents are not scientists, my Mum is a teaching assistant and my Dad worked for a telephone company before he retired.

I had one really amazing biology teacher – who made it real when others sometimes just seemed a bit boring. She was really inspirational and really encouraged me.

My mum and dad both have backgrounds in health – dad was a dentist and mum was a dietician (in the very ancient days when they only knew abut 6 amino acids). I don’t think either of them would call themselves a scientist today – but they did encourage me to find things out.

I loved the story of Marie Curie’s life – until i read about her I thought all scientists were men!

I’m the first scientist in the family. My love of learning stuff (particularly science stuff) attracted me to this profession I think.
