Once you have got your science GCSE there are lots of things to think about. they are designed to help you get ready for further education or for employment. Your teachers are the best ones to help you decide what is right for you, because they will know you best.
It might also depend on how well you do in your GCSE science and on which is your favourite branch of science, but most people go on to do some more learning in science if they want to make it their career.
Good luck!
Science GCSEs are great because they bring so many opportunities, especially if you decide to continue them to A-level. Lots of people with science subjects do go on to a science degree or career (scientist, forensic investigator, university lecturer, working for regulatory agencies). But, even if you decide after that a science career isn’t for you, there is still so much you can do. Showing that you can study science shows that you are good with numbers, that you can do experiments and understand results, and that you can write clearly and explain complicated things. These skills are called ‘transferable skills’, and most employers value them, even if their job is not directly related to science. I have a friend who studied biochemistry at university and now works in a bank, and others who are teachers, doctors, dentists – all kinds!
A science GCSE will help you with many starter jobs because it demonstrates a good basic knowledge of a specialist area as well as transferable skills such as data handling and critical thinking. The idea is that it acts a base on which to build new skills (e.g. through A level, degrees, and/or internships) and this is how you are more likely to get the most interesting jobs but a good GCSE is certainly a good place to start!
