When you first go to university, your first degree (3 years) is called a Bachelors degree, or BSc for science subjects. When you graduate, you can move onto a Masters (further teaching), or a PhD, which is a doctorate. A PhD allows you to choose your own project that interests you and do your own research. After 3 or 4 years, you write a thesis, which is basically a large book describing everything you have found. When I graduate, I will be called Dr!
