What a difficult question! I don’t think there was any particular moment. For me, it was the accumulation of going to so many science lessons where I learned more and more about how the world and our bodies worked. The more I learned, the more I could understand things that I read and make sense of things that happen to me. It made me really want to go and find out more about things that interest me about the body and particularly the brain, so I went to University, and am now continuing to study for my PhD – I can’t get enough of it!
Since the second year of my university i already started with weekly work placements in a laboratory. I then talked a lot to people who were following this career path, tried for a year another work placement in the industry and decided that university was what i really liked. Trying it out as early as you can was key for me.
I can’t remember one single event. I just loved being in labs. even when I was in school.
I had a break from science for about 3 years when I had babies – walked back into the lab and recognised that peculiar smell you get in there. I knew I’d missed it.
