You know what? We don’t really understand the physiological mechanisms for hiccups.

There are lots of ideas and speculation about how and why they happen, but if I was starting out again I might think about experiments to find out more about them.

The brain is the main control organ and so the one with the most intrigue BUT the most difficulty to study properly! If you want an easy study to do in your school try looking at the effect of doing different things (e.g. laying, standing, running, walking) on heart rate – it is a very simple study to do (you don’t need any equipment) and you can easily see how amazing our body is at changing to meet the demands of whatever you want it to!
