I think the bit of the sport I find most interesting is figuring out how many different ways our brain and body can use to give you the same output. For example, for someone to put their foot on the ground, take a step, and then take another step, because we have so many different muscles (which behave differently because of their size or if they are ‘fast’ or ‘slow’ muscles for example), as well as three joints (your hip, knee, and ankle), we can use lots of different ways to be able to walk or run successfully. It’s amazing how much our brain and body can do in such tiny times to ensure we can move. I find this fascinating, and it is because of these differences between people that when we work with sports people, we need to treat each person differently and work with their strengths or weaknesses to make them perform at their best.
I find it interesting how the human body can adapt when permanently injured and how the human body can adapt to different environments, plus why some people are better than others at adapting. The human body is incredible but when under stress it is even more impressive in how it copes.
