Chronic diseases cannot be cured, and instead someone has to learn to live with what they have rather than get rid of it entirely. People may end up changing their lifestyle to deal with it, or taking some sort of medication. Examples of chronic diseases are heart disease, type 2 diabetes and arthritis.
Because they can’t be cured, prevention of getting them in the first place is important. To prevent heart disease and diabetes for example, we recommend exercising for at least 30 minutes 5 times per week, avoid sitting in the same place doing nothing for long periods of time, and eat a balanced diet.
I agree with Laura Anne, chronic diseases are chronic or long-lasting. The key to chronic diseases is management. The individual may have to change their diet or exercise more or start taking medication to manage the treatment.
