It ws hard at first. I felt so out of my depth. The key though is reading. You have to read a lot. The more I read and asked questions the easier it became. I would never say it was easy, but now it is less stressful.

Sometimes it can be, particularly when perhaps my students don’t do so well in a test or an assignment and I wonder if there was something I could have done or explained differently that could have helped them more. But the more I teach, reflect and get feedback the more I can develop my teaching methods to be more effective and hopefully interesting too!

I’m afraid I haven’t taught Science in university, but I would imagine that if you are teaching something you are interested in your enthusiasm will enable you to read enough and know enough around the subject to make it easier.

I am currently not doing that much teaching. But previously when I have taught, yes it can be difficult but students can ask some great questions which sometimes make you think about your work in a different way.

It’s hard at first because you aren’t really that sure of what you are doing, but it gets easier. Doing practical sessions with the students in the labs is really helpful, as it shows them how to apply what we learn in the classroom, into a practical setting – it helps make the link between things in a book or lecture and what it actually means.
