Good question. In university there are kevels of lecturers (teachers). You start as a lecturer and then assuming you have developed research, been a good tutor etc. you progress to Senior Lecturer. The top level is Principal Lecturer which means that you should be recognised as an expert in your field of work and be considered a good tutor to your students.
