• Question: Why did you decide to enter the I’m a scientist competition?

      Hi, thanks for your question..

      I as invited to take part after I registered for a conference about sleep.

      I really enjoy talking about science to people who might not be working in science themselves, especially if it means encouraging young people to get consider a career in science. I also think it is important to beopen about the fact that I use animals for my research because I find that people often imagine that the way animals are treated is much worse than the reality. I am a strong believer that animal research (for medical purposes) is justifiable, even if it is not a pleasant thing.

    I went to a local ‘science communication’ monthly social meet, and got talked into it by the organisers of it. I then had to get agreement from my employer to take part, but they were very supportive.

    It seems like a worthwhile cause – psychology is a very popular subject now, but less so among males and a good experience to build my CV.
