Sleep Zone

Sleep is something we all do, and is vital for survival. Good sleep helps with learning, especially in school, and disturbed sleep can lead to a loss of productivity. Lifestyle factors such as excessive media use and our 24/7 society make it difficult to prioritise sleeping, so it’s important for us to understand the benefits.

In this zone is a scientist helping people who have sleep problems, another looking at interventions to improve teenagers’ sleep, health and well-being, and another studying the effects of sleep on the brain. There’s a scientist trying to figure out how animals are able to switch themselves off to hibernate, and one who is researching why some people get sleep problems and others don’t. Also in this zone is a scientist studying for a masters degree in sleep medicine.
