I have always been curious about how the proteins in our body look. In fact, I used to always ask my teachers that question when they taught me about a new protein.

My first scientific project worked on human embryo development (growth of a baby in the womb). I am sure you have heard that “genetics” is what we get from our parents. But we don’t get every trait of our dad and every trait of our mom. We only get a few from each of them. I was working on the shape of the protein that actually decided which quality of each parent is passed on to the child. This is an area of science known as “epigenetics”.

I’ve never had a main question that I have wanted to answer. I’ve always just been curious and interested in science and worked with people whose research I was interested in!
One of my main projects has looked at how fish genetics have changed over evolution and looked at why they would’ve. Evolution is the process of how traits that are passed from one generation to the next have changed over periods of time. Reasons for the change can be based on the environment they lived in, what food they ate or who they lived alongside. I think this is fascinating and a good story to research and tell others about.

What i want to know is: why are people put off by science and think it’s so boring? And how can we change that? 🤔✨

I want to make people who feel that STEM subjects aren’t an option for them to feel like that door is open, should they decide that is where their passion lies 😊❤ I want to encourage people that science is for EVERYONE and smash the stereotype of scientists!
