  Good question! And I am not sure about it really.. maybe they do? It would take you a long time to dig to the centre of the Earth though if that’s what your planning… 😛
  
  But I do know that even if you own a piece of land, you have to get permission for doing some things on it! So councils can regulate activities that way.

  I think this might be a question for lawyers rather than scientists! But they certainly don’t own it all the way up to space (planes don’t need your permission to fly over your house), so they probably don’t own it all the way down to the Earth’s core either–especially as your piece would get very narrow indeed as you got towards the centre of the planet!
