Dimensions can be seen as different “levels of detail” in our world. For instance, if you look at a pencil from a distance, it just looks like a line (this is just 1 dimension- length). But if you come a little closer, you see that it actually has a triangular tip with a long, thin rectangular body (this is length and width-2 dimensions). Finally when you look at it from all around, you see that it is actually a cylinder and not a rectangle, and its tip is a cone, not a triangle. This is because you now see the pencil’s length, width and depth- which are 3 dimensions.
Interesting thing is- it doesn’t just end there! When physicists study our vast infinite universe, they believe there are many more dimensions that we can’t experience or imagine in our everyday life on earth.
