Trust is very important for any relationship. That’s because a really important part of a relationship, be it romantic, friendly, or child-parent, is that you expect the other person to be there for you, and that gives you a sense of security in the relationship. Without trust, that important part of the relationship can’t develop. But, this does depend on the individual as well. Some individuals, for example those with difficult childhoods where they never had anyone they could really trust, develop a bit differently, so that they have different expectations and needs in relationship. It can make relationships harder to form for these people, but not impossible. Other aspects of what people need in their relationships can vary a lot from person to person – but that leads to another point that is pretty universally necessary – good communication. Because different people can have different needs and expectations, it’s important that they talk to each other about that. Otherwise there is a risk that you making incorrect assumptions about what the other person actually wants.
