There’s a few. The person who got me really passionate about research is one of my undergraduate lecturers (Nicole Alea Albada – now at University of California Santa Barbara). One of my Bristol professors during my MSc (Kit Pleydell-Pearce) also had a huge influence on me because of the breadth of his knowledge and the openness and kindness he had to just talk about a variety of things that interested me (including music and consciousness). Lastly, I’d say that my PhD supervisor (Edwin Dalmaijer) is a huge inspiration for me because he’s just a really great human being and brilliant at research too.
Outside of people I know personally, I’d say Lisa Feldman Barrett really inspired me – I attended a feature lecture at Bristol in 2020 delivered by her, and she made me become really fascinated by emotion and the brain.

The psychologist that inspired me to study psychology was a lecturer that come and covered my AS level psychology. He encouraged me to set up an ethics board for the students and pursue my interest in achieving good research. I don’t know his name or which university he came from, but he absolutely encouraged and gave me confidence to apply to study psychology at university.
