Great question! I think that we have evolved as humans to have more complex physical and mental health needs, and the research into psychology has helped up understand mental health needs, now more than ever. I can’t believe in the last 10 years, there were places in France that were still pouring buckets of cold water over autistic children to “treat them”. Research is so crucial for developing an understanding of mental health in society, and the societal acceptance of mental health.
It has helped us understand so many critical issues although it has not helped us fix everything. For example, we understand a lot more now about prejudice and discrimination and whilst that has helped with peace-making, valuable collective action, and prejudice and stigma reduction, but we still have wars.
