      My boyfriend is also a scientist, and his boss is a real idol of mine. She’s the youngest female professor that I know, and she juggles a successful career with being a mum of two and taking on all sorts of extra activities in her spare time. She’s also a really lovely person, so I’m a big fan! Her name is Janine Erler and she’s an expert in cancer biology; in particular in how cancer spreads to secondary sites around the body (a process called ‘metastasis’).

      I’m fond of scientists who have been influential in their field, but love even more scientists who are good at talking to the public about science and research. There are plenty of them, but I could cite folks who work in France and who have had, or still have, a positive influence on me, like Hubert Reeves, Jean-Pierre Luminet, Etienne Klein, …

      She’s my favourite because she’s pioneering cancer science while raising two beautiful children and keeping up with a hectic social life. Being a scientist is difficult, which means being so successful is rare, especially for a woman. I’m sure there are more record-breaking achievements we could cite for successful female scientists, but Janine is a woman I know personally, which is why I’m a fan.
