Both! I work on my own ideas and projects, but I always have help from my friends, and I’m always helping them with their own.

Team! I work at the ATLAS collaboration, which is one of the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. The ATLAS collaboration has about ~3000 scientists, from 38 countries, and 174 different universities and labs. Inside the collaborations, we have many sub-teams which are looking at one specific subject inside the big picture of the experiment. In my daily life, I usually deal directly with about 30 collaborators. But when I need to make one of my results public, all of the 3000 people working in my collaboration can look into it and tell me what they think, and give me suggestions and/or criticism. The team structure ends up being so complex that PhD thesis on human resources management has studied how the experiments at CERN work! It is quite an incredible experience to work with so many different people, from all continents, with such diverse culture and backgrounds.

Both, I do a lot of my own research on my own but a big part of my role is to help others perform research at the facility I run in Oxfordshire so then I am working as part of a team.
