About the Extreme Pressure Zone

Under pressure. Pushing down on me, pushing down on you. Sometimes, we all feel it. But there are places in the world where physical pressure becomes even more of a factor, places you will also find scientists. Whether deep inside the earth, or in vacuums more empty than space, there are researchers looking at what happens when you take pressure to its extremes.

In this zone, you will meet scientists using the world’s biggest camera to look at what happens when protons are smashed together, studying how materials behave under huge amounts of pressure, figuring out why the continents move across the Earth’s surface, squeezing samples, or looking at huge explosions on the Sun.
