Ah, I have heard of shifting a little bit recently! I don’t know the answer to your question to be honest- you’d have to ask a psychologist or a neuroscientist in that area of expertise. From what I understand, it’s basically something called a transliminal experience (so something like lucid dreaming or meditation). So your brain is creating the experience of an alternate reality.
From what I understand, RS is a mental exercise through which you imagine the scene you would like to live (~ day dreaming).
And if you assimilate RS to a type of dreaming state, then it will be hard to get stuck in it, as your body has a tendency to come back to reality whenever it either needs something (food, bathroom, etc.) or receives external stimuli (noise, light, pain, etc.)
