I am no expert on this subject and so have to take it at face value. Put it like this, I have no particular reason not to believe string theory. It is a theory, like much of physics, so is subject to discourse and criticism.
I have very limited understanding of physics and have never spent much time considering string theory. I struggle to understand quantum mechanics and things like that, it is so far from my daily work as a Biologist, which is quite time-consuming. Perhaps I should try harder!
What I quite like about string theory is that it opens up the rationale for there being multiple dimensions, which is a cool idea. There is a book that I really like called Flatland by Edwin Abbott, which is about how a 2 dimensional character (A. Square) might experience different dimensions which is based on string theory. I’m not sure if ‘believe’ is the right word, but it’s plausible.
