I do lots of different things in my job!
One thing I do is help doctors and scientists explain their work. When they study, doctors and scientists learn to use a lot of very complicated words (and sometimes really difficult maths), so reading about what they study can be like reading a foreign language! I help them to explain their work in words that everyone can understand, so that everyone can learn.
Another thing I do is work on entertainment – that is, things like films, television, books, and comics. The people who create the films and television shows and comic books you like often make up things that sound like science, but couldn’t really be true. I help them find ways to put real science – things that could actually be true – into their work. Some of the questions I’ve been asked are things like:
– “How could Spider-Man get superpowers from a radioactive spider bite?”
– “If a spaceship crashed into the ocean near us, what would happen?”
– “What would an alien who lived on a desert planet look like, and how would it live?”
