My mum’s a nurse, and while I was at school she did a PhD looking at how to improve the quality of life of cancer patients who were near the end of their cancer journeys. The better I understand what it’s like to do a PhD, the more impressed I am she managed it all! Now she’s in charge of training nurses to care for people with cancer, and by all accounts she’s an amazing teacher 🙂
My dad didn’t go to university – after A-levels he went off and became an accountant, and he’s pretty great at that too. He may not have really studied science much but he’s incredibly helpful – he’s an absolute genius with Excel spreadsheets! That may sound silly, but the other week I couldn’t get a spreadsheet of data to do what I wanted, so I sent it to him and he’d cracked it in no time! 🙂
