I did my school years and undergrad in Germany, then a PhD at Leicester Uni.
A-levels, “Diplom” and PhD (in geology)
Mostly at Leicester Uni, I really haven’t got very far yet…
Research Assistant working on the building stones of Leicester
I am a geologist with a passion for volcanoes but I am also into climate change
I did geology at uni because it gave me the opportunity to travel the world. Then I discovered volcanoes! I did a semester abroad in Hawaii to get some volcanology experience which was fantastic and confirmed that I wanted to become a volcanologist. So I went and got a PhD (research degree) in volcanoes. I’ve not worked very much in this field though as there aren’t many jobs so I work in geology more generally. I believe we should all be working towards a zero-carbon sustainable society and economy and this is an area I’d like to work in next.
My Typical Day:
Staring at a computer screen plotting chemical data or exploring in Google Earth. Taking pictures of buildings to assess the materials they are made from
What I'd do with the prize money:
Make climate science open to pupils
