I think he’s being revoltingly selfish: He knows that he can make more money and get more voters by being dishonest about proven science, plus the likelihood is that he’ll be dead before it really matters anyway. I mean, even if you really didn’t believe in global warming, what’s the worst that could happen if you try to prevent carbon emissions? The world would be less stinky, the air would be nicer to breathe? hmm, seems like there’s no way to lose by being nicer to the world – unless you’re only in it for the money >:(
I agree with the others. I’m not sure he really disagrees with the science – I don’t know that he understands it – it’s just that its implications are really awkward and tricky for him and the oil companies who he wants onside. So rather than doing the brave, right thing, he’s taken the easy way out – after all, if you say climate change doesn’t exist you don’t have to try and fix it. That said, it’s possible he really believes it’s fake – in that case he’s dangerously ignorant. Cowardly or ignorant – it’s not a good pair of options…
