      Hi Liana,

      Thanks for the question! Hess’s law states that “the enthalpy change of a chemical change is independent of the route taken by the chemical change”.

      The enthalpy change will be the same for changing reactants A to products B regardless of how many steps (some routes involve making intermediates) you take from A to B.
