I think it is natural for everyone to feel down at some point. I commute and in the winter months, it can be mentally & physically draining. We have some great support at my work, I am training to be a mental health first aider. Any job can be challenging & tough at times but it is important not to be afraid to open up to others & talk things through. We all have access to an app called Headspace which is fantastic for practicing your relaxing skills.

Yes. I think is is completely normal to feel down, even very much so. The key is to seek help and support from people you trust, or a professional. In my opinion, the stigma that comes with seeking professional help is ridiculous, because nobody bats an eye if you get a cast for your broken arm…
I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by a very supportive and understanding family that helps when help is needed. -

Yes. Sometimes despite all your efforts things go wrong. It makes you want to quit. But this is something most people will experience. It is about knowing whether it is just a difficult phase or you really don’t want to do that job anymore.

No… I’ve been very lucky. Even when things go wrong, I learn and move on. That’s always how I’ve been.

Yes. I was diagnosed with depression while at university, and ended up having to cut short a 4 year degree to just 3 years. I went back home to my parents, and received cognitive behavioural therapy and taking medication. When i was better, i started applying for jobs and was successful to get a job in Watford, so had to move down from outside of Manchester.
When i started, everything was exciting and new, so i was ok. But soon, i realised that my mental health was starting to suffer, mainly due to being a long way from my family, and there were many times i just wanted to quit and go back to my parents.
In the end, i stuck with it because of help from my colleagues, my family and my fiancee. Its still hard living several hours from my family, particularly during covid and christmas, but its helped me grow mentally a bit stronger and shown me the people in my life who are willing to help -

I’ve never wanted to quit my job, but I’ve had a few cycles of therapy for stress and anxiety that has been somewhat linked to work. There are certainly days where I find my job impacts my mental health more, and at those times it’s important to prioritise things that help you feel better about yourself and feel more able to cope with the pressures that life is throwing at you.

Not really. There have been bad days, in which everything seems to go wrong, but then I breath in and remember why I am doing my job. The following day everything seems better…. chocolate helps too!
