Im not aware of any scientific evidence of mermaids, but there is a lot we don’t know about the depth of the sea. But there are a lot of interesting animals in the sea that have inspired new materials and technologies such as waterproof clothing. 🙂
There is no evidence for their existence on this planet, but that does not mean they don’t exist. I personally do not think so, but it would be super-exciting to be proven wrong.
It depends on what you mean…. There is in a museum somewhere a stuffed animal that is described as a Mermaid. But its cobbled together from bits of different animals – a monkey and a large fish. The Victorians did this a lot! People have also said that the Manatee, an aquatic mammal found in the waters around Florida, is the source of the mermaid myth.
Despite extensive research, we haven’t been able to confirm the existence of mermaids. It’s thought that sailors may have gone a bit loopy and decided that the manatees they saw were what we refer to as mermaids.
But then again, the ocean is very big and we haven’t found everything yet, so who knows!
I’d love to say yes to this, but I’m afraid I’ve never seen one. I would say they’re probably not real – but would be excited to be proven wrong!
However, what I can say is that I have been to see the statue of ‘The Little Mermaid’ in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, I really liked Copenhagen and can recommend it for a visit some time. But the Little Mermaid statue really lives up its name – for something so well known, it certainly is little!
I’m sorry to say that even if sailor tales talk about them, there is not scientific evidence about their existence. But hope they find some relevant results so that we can say they exist!
