Less time spent on administration and paperwork, more on doing science! 🙂

Science should be funded better, but if one good thing is to come out of the COVID pandemic, it should be that governments understand the importance of research.

Being a scientist has changed a lot over the years. It’s not only about work, but is also about becoming a well rounded individual (e.g. who does sports, socialises with friends). Scientists should do more public engagement with schools and the community to demystify what the job involves.

I’m not sure… I will admit that I don’t like the way science is funded in this country. There is too much negative behaviour and unjustified arrogance amongst some of the scientific community. I would prefer to see a system where if you are claiming that you science is international in quality that only external international referees are used and your UK contemporaries are not allowed to referee; especially if they are your competitors for the money.

There are many things that should be fixed. How we measure success for example, or how funding decisions are made. Or, if you do not go to industry but stay in academia, you will most likely be in your 30s before you have a permanent position.
