Hi, great question. A mechanical engineer is not quite the same as a Mechanic, however we do have lots of similarities.
A Mechanic generally works with their hands on machinery (including cars) and fixes things and services them to make sure they last a long time.
A Mechanical engineer can to that, however most Mechanical Engineers are more focused on design and managing the processes and machinery. The description ‘Mechanical Engineer’ can mean so many different things, from looking after a railway, to designing a plane, managing a power station and including designing cars and ensuring systems are in place to make sure the car keeps working.
I do however do a little bit of car maintenance at weekends. My favourite car to work on would be a TVR Chimera.
