I have lots of colleagues here in Bristol, as well as other Universities in the UK and abroad, that help with learning new techniques and getting access to fossils. I also three supervisors, in Bristol, Zurich and Stockholm, that are guiding me to do the right kind of things. But ultimately I have to do the work myself.
A bit of both. I always have several projects going on, thinking about different problems. Mostly, I do these with other people and we meet often to discuss progress, how our different parts of the problem are going on and how best to proceed. Some of these people are at the same university as me, so we meet face to face. Others are elsewhere in the world, so we use email a lot
I work in a big lab with 12 other people, most of them are students who are doing PhD’s. We have a real mix of people from all over the world and one of the things I enjoy about my job is the fact I get to work with lots of people, we all have a laugh in the lab and we also go out lots after work which is nice! I think I would get a bit lonely working on my own!
Both! I cover drugs that treat solid tumours so in that regards I work by myself but I work in a team with people that cover other diseases so we can combine forces and skills and try and make sure our knowledge helps each other….
Pretty much all of my work is done in teams. I work in a very interdisciplinary area. So, some of my colleagues build new sorts of computers, sometimes I work with artists who want to use computers in their work. Other times we work with scientists who want to find new ways of using computers to gather data for their experiments.
