      Testing your theories is a bit hard in the world of drug research – but we do our best. If we think a drug works, we have to do a lot of work to prove that the drug is safe and works. This typically takes over 10 years and costs over $1 billion. We still get it wrong though – have you all heard of thalidomide? That was a drug given for morning sickness but caused horrible diseases in the babies… It was so sad yet now the drug is used by people with cancer. It just shows how careful you have to be when testing drugs. Scientists don’t always get things right!
