      I think Frank Whittle invented what we think of as a modern jet engine, maybe you could research it and let me know!

      Like most creations, many people were involved, but the key person was Frank Whittle, a British engineer. I think there was a separate independent invention in Germany, but Frank Whittle just made it first.

      Frank Whittle. He came from Coventry (where I live and used to work), there’s a plaque dedicating the common near my house to him.

      Hi Stu212. If you had asked me this question a few weeks ago, I would have to have said that I didn’t know, but, I actually learned the answer to this on a TV quiz show!! It was invented by an Englishman called Frank Whittle.

      Just goes to show that you can learn things from almost anywhere, even gameshows on tv!
