When I was studying fish families on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia I got to watch fish parents caring for their babies – spiny chromis have hundreds at a time that they look after in a nest. I loved watching their behaviour and over the course of 10 weeks I got to know several different nests, the parents all had their own personalities. Sometimes the parents got injured defending their babies from predators but they are tough little nuts and will do anything for their family!
