Hi! Good question! I guess when it comes to my work in science, we should be worried about the diseases that can hop from animals to people. Did you know that two thirds of the infectious diseases that people get originally came from animals? You will have heard of things live HIV, Zika, Swine Flu and Rabies. We think all of these diseases started out in animals and have adapted to affect humans too. Because we share the space we live in with animals, both domestic and wild ones, it makes it more likely that an infectious disease will find a way to hop from one species to another! It is our job as scientists to understand how and why this happens, so we can work on finding ways to protect animals and ourselves from getting these nasty diseases. Cool, huh?
